Fletcher Technical Community College Thibodaux campus enlisted the. services of YKH Consulting, LLC to assess the potential upgrade of the existing HVAC system. The facility comprises both a conditioned section, housing classrooms, common areas, and administrative spaces, and an unconditioned section, designated for trade shop training. The conditioned area spans approximately 18,250 square feet and is maintained by 4-pipe fan coil units, supported by a 60 Ton air-cooled water chiller and a 750 MBH natural gas fired boiler. The unconditioned space, encompassing around 11,600 square feet, relies on natural gas fired unit heaters for heating.
Upon evaluation, it was concluded that the conditioned area struggles to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels during cooling operations, leading to discomfort for occupants, subpar indoor air quality, and the growth of mold within supply air ducts and diffusers. To address these issues, a comprehensive replacement project is in progress. This undertaking necessitates mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, and civil modifications, with a key feature being the installation of a new dedicated outside air system on the roof, utilizing direct expansion technology.
